Ribeira Sacra Blanco, Guímaro - 2023

Item # 40209 750 mL

Cultivated since Roman times, Ribeira Sacra’s steep terraced vineyards are some of the most picturesque yet treacherous to work in the world of wine. Staff Pick Notes

Ribeira Sacra is synonymous with red wines made from Mencia, but here is a hidden treasure of a white wine. Made from pure Godello this is a rich, full bodied wine. Guimaro (meaning "rebel" in the Gallego dialect of north west Spain) was founded in 1991. Prior to that the Rodriguez family was producing wine for local consumption only. The grapes are planted from several vineyards in slate, granite and sand soils along the Sil river in the Amandi sub region. Aromas of flowers, lemon rind and caramel draw you in. On the palette a burst of yellow apples, pineapples and pears. A subtle oily texture hints at aging although there is no oak contact. It's a delightfully rebellious wine with ambition.

Vines must struggle for nutrients here, and this gives concentration to the fruit. The red wines of Ribeira Sacra are...
