Sherry can only be called Sherry if it comes from the Jerez region of Spain. ("Sherry" is an Anglo-mangling of "Jerez.") That said, there are several noteworthy "Sherry-styled" wines produced outside of the Jerez D.O. (known as vinos generosos). Montilla-Moriles, to the northeast of Jerez, produces some of the finest Pedro Ximénezin the world.
