This rich, darkly colored, and structured dry red comes from the Imeretian village of Kiketi, not too far from Tbilisi. The cooler climate here makes for a slow fermentation, and the wine also ages in traditional qvevri. Pair with Kupati and pkhali.

Now this is a wine with an aromatic bouquet! Curious to dip your toes into either Saperavi or qvevri ("kwev-ree") reds? Start here. On the nose we've got oodles of fresh pomegranate, dark cherries and violet, along with just a hint of animal - it's deliriously heady and raw. Based on the wine's signature inky, purplish-ruby color, you'd be forgiven for expecting a hefty sip. Yet the tannins are held in check to a lip-tingling distance, most of the structure coming from its acidity. Your tastebuds will be jolted to attention, delighted with bluer fruits than the nose lets on - juicy plums and blackberries, oh my! This is lifted and delicious Saperavi, fresh and juicy, full of life and surprise. Put a slight chill on it and bust it out at the barbecue or for charcuterie year-round.
