Dom. des Tourelles, Cinsault Vieilles Vignes - 2020

Item # 36006 750 mL

An old vines bottling made entirely from the Cinsault grape variety. The fruit is pure, intense with dark berried aromas and a tannic structure that makes it an ideal pairing with meat dishes - think grilled lamb chops. Domaine des Tourelles began making wine in the late 1800s. The estate was started by a Frenchman, François-Eugène Brun. Today, this property is one of the finest boutique estates around in the Bekaa Valley.

Staff Pick Notes

While it was widely planted in Lebanon in the mid-19th century, Cinsault fell out of favor to better known, imported international varieties. The grape has seen a resurgence there in recent years and is often used as a blending grape in many other Lebanese red wines. This bottle is an homage to this criminally underrated grape: unoaked, unadulterated, 100% Cinsault. Born from vines that are a minimum of 50 years old, the grapes are wild-yeast fermented in concrete tanks, making for a pure, beautiful expression of Cinsault. Cherry, blackberry, and bramble, balanced with lovely earthiness and nice concentration. Medium-bodied, food-friendly, and very easy to drink, I love it. Long live Lebanese wine, and long live Cinsault!
