Laterrade Astor Select Domaine de Marquet Bas-Armagnac - 1992

Vincent Laterrade seeks out and bottles, rare casks from Armagnac. He helped start L’Encatada and left when they went in a more commerical directions. The barrels he finds in his native Armagnac continue to astound. Bottled at a pure undiluted 43.5% this is a rich, confection of a dried fruits, maple and vanilla with woody earth and minerality. 1992 was the year Clinton was 1st elected and also the year I graduated from college. Spirits with this kind of age allow me to reflect on the world and how much it has changed but also how in some ways things like Armagnac have not changed at all and that gives me hope that something in our human spirit will continue to thrive in these dark times.
