Young Vines, Dom. Tatsis - 2019

750 mL
Item # 44518

A younger, more easily accessible version of the domaine's Goumenissa, this blend of Xinomavro and Negoska retains a freshness and lighter structure. It is more fruit-forward and ready for earlier consumption. From one of the original natural winemakers in Greece, and a family that has been crafting wine for many generations.

Staff Pick Notes

Periklis and Stergios Tatsis are commited to growing grapes and making distinctively Greek wines naturally. This one is 50% Xinomavro and 50% Negoska, made from younger vines in Macedonia; the older vines in this plot go into the Tatsis "Goumenissa". Xinomavro, with it's edgy sour cherry notes, has a resemblance to Nebbiolo, while Negoska's lower acidity and darker, earthy, nuances are a perfect counterpoint. The nose is fragrant with herbal notes echoing rosemary, violet, cranberry, and sarsaparilla, with a palate that is nervy and earthy with a gentle grip, yet showcasing freshness and bounce. It's safe to include Domaine Tatsis as one of the OG's of natural wine in Greece, and the wines offer insane value for the amount of TLC they're made with. Serve slightly chilled with in your next lamb Gyro adventure.

Glossary

Xynomavro

Pronounced "ksee NO ma vro", this is one of Greece’s most important red varietals. The primary grape of Naoussa, this grape produces wines of extraordinary depth and complexity. Frequently likened to Nebbiolo, these wines are dark and tannic in their youth, and benefit immensely from ageing. Typical aromas are black olive, cooking spices, earth, and black fruit.
