Friulano, Ronchi di Cialla - 2023

Item # 36628 750 mL

A classic Friulian producer, Ronchi di Cialla exceeds our expectations with their heady, aromatic whites. Another stunning wine from their line-up, the Friulano is made for the table. The fruit comes from the Lonzano Vineyard and is aged on the lees for 3 months with weekly battonage to give it a full-body and texture.

Staff Pick Notes

While my heart and palate stays neutral when it comes to reds vs whites, I must admit that I’ve been bingeing on whites like Netflix users do with dramas and comedies. This Friulano made by one of the premier producers from Friuli-Venezia Giulia is “must-drink production”. Ronchi di Cialla (“Hills of Cialla”) is located on the sunny slopes of the Cialla Valley with vineyards planted there for centuries. Headed by Pierpaolo and Ivan Rapuzzi, these brothers adamantly continue the work of their parents by growing grapes with ancient local origins and minimal interference. With bold aromas of green pear, white peach and grapefruit, the juice is juxtaposed by greener flavors of basil, rosemary, tarragon, subtle almond and crushed gravel. This wine is excellent and worth every “re-run”.

The grape that benefits most from the latter of these unusual and ancient techniques is the white varietal, Ribola Gialla, which yields...
