Vouvray "Clos du Bourg" Moëlleux 1er Trie, Huet - 2006

750 mL
Item # 23921

Vines have been planted in the Clos du Bourg for over 14 centuries; an unusually shallow layer of topsoil forces the rootstock to bore into solid limestone bedrock, resulting in wines of great power and finesse. The sweetest wine from the impressive Huet line up, this gem is a treat with a cheese course.

Staff Pick Notes

Like so many things in life, dinner parties have their own pacing and rhythm, with a time and place for many different kinds of wine. Start with some bubbly or an apperitif, move on to white wines, then reds, followed by something a little sweet with a cheese course perhaps. It's a story, a symphony that needs a sensitive conductor to see it through to the end. Especially around the holidays when we linger a little longer around the table, why not pour something special and unexpected. Like this sweet Chenin-based wine from one of the Loire's most renowned producers. A bottle with 15 years of age (although it can go much longer) from the year Gaston Huet died. It's beautifully rich with aromas of peach, apricots and honey, full bodied with bright acidity, apple skins, and apricots. A luxurious note to cap off a special evening.

Glossary

Loire

There’s a lot to remember when it comes to the Loire. Novices, take note: Cabernet Franc is a great alternative to Cabernet Sauvignon, Muscadet is unparalleled as a companion to shellfish, and Cour Cheverny is the best white wine appellation you’ve never heard of. Chenin Blanc

A versatile grape that is grown worldwide, but is most commonly associated with the Loire, California, Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand. It produces just about any type of wine you can think of: ageworthy dessert wines; delicious, honeyed dry whites; sparklers; and even bases for fortified wines and spirits. These days, one of the most exciting stories is in South Africa, where newly adopted winemaking technologies have helped a dedicated group of producers to bring the country's dry...
