This is a wonderful example of a wine that we only see at Astor seasonally. The arrival of Casa D'Ambra Ischia Bianco means that summer is officially here! Coming from the volcanic island of Ischia, which is just off the coast of Naples, this is a blend of two indigenous white grapes, Biancolella and Forestera. The staff here all flock to this wine as a fitting alternative to more popular varieties in Southern Italy and even New Zealand whites. With deep tropical fruit notes of pineapple and mango, this is a fresh and fragrant wine. But what’s stand out to me is a great depth of texture much like a Pinot Gris as it opens in the glass.
