Staff Pick Notes

The Historic Series from the Rare Wine Company is a celebration of Madeira, in joint collaboration with reputed Madeira house, Vinhos Barbeito. Drawing from the rich history of Madeira consumption in America, this series of fortified wines explores the Colonial love of rich and elegant expressions; as well as the fresh and delicate styles enjoyed in the South. The New York Malmsey is produced using the Malvasia grape, the richest of the 4 grapes historically used in Madeira. The Special Reserve designation requires the average age of wines to exceed 10 years. On the palate there is an abundance of caramel, toasted nuts, orange peel, and cloves. While rich in flavor, the sip leans away from sweetness due to its signature fresh and vibrant acidity. Try this exceptional Madeira and drink like our founding fathers!
