Winemaker Jim Clendenon abandoned a career in law after falling in love with French wine and food during a trip abroad in the 1970s. He has since become one of the most important modern American winemakers. Jim is known for his early championing of the Santa Barbara region, and also for his pioneering winemaking style that respects old-world tradition, but does not betray its American roots. Focused mainly on producing fresh, textural Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, Au Bon Climat, or ‘well-exposed vineyard’, sources fruit from some of the most well-regarded vineyards on the Central Coast. Vineyards that are sustainably, if not organically, farmed. The 2018 SB County Chardonnay is the 35th release of this iconic wine. The fruit comes from plantings that average 25 years of age.
