Piccolo Bianco, Dalia Maris - 2022

Item # 51972 750 mL

A Friulian white wine made from local grapes. Made in a style that's rich and dense with fruit on the palate. Dalia Maris is a project founded by Giampaolo Venica, whose family’s winery – Venica e Venica – is among the most historic and notable in Friuli. Named after Giampaolo's grandmother, Dalia and made in style that calls on the grand white wines of the Northern Rhône Valley. Giampaolo worked with Jean-Louis Chave for years before coming back to make this wine which is unlike others you find in Friuli as it is a white that is aged in oak.

The grape that benefits most from the latter of these unusual and ancient techniques is the white varietal, Ribola Gialla, which yields...

Sauvignon Blanc

Few varietals have spawned as bizarre a list of descriptors as Sauvignon Blanc. Believe it or not, “cat pee” is in fact a complimentary tasting note, associated with some of the best bottlings. Chardonnay

From Champagne to Chablis, it's hard (not to mention unpleasant) to avoid this famous white variety. During a huge popularity surge beginning in the late 1980s, Chardonnay plantings have increased dramatically -- not only in California's wine country, with which the variety is nearly synonymous, but also in Burgundy (its original, Old World home) and just about everywhere else in the winemaking world. It is a flexible, eager-to-please grape, responding well to just about anything a winemaker...
