Staff Pick Notes

Most of our Croatian wines come to us from the sun-soaked Dalmatian coast, or an island in the Adriatic. Not so with Kreso Petrekovic of Podrum Franjo's wines! His grapes are primarily sourced from centenary vines around the hinterland mountain of Plješivica, which borders Bosnia and Herzegovina and is just a stones throw from the Plitvice Lakes National Park, a standout gem in a country that is not short on natural beauty. This is an irresistibly juicy and light red wine, one that on the nose recalls a glazed fruit tart composed of the most temptingly ripe berries. Bright acidity accents the fruit-forward notes, and delivers a long finish. I couldn't stop myself from smiling as I refilled my glass with this delicious, happy, pomegranate-hued co-ferment. Nazdravlje!

There is an entire spectrum of Pinot Gris/Grigio, however, the best of them being subtly aromatic and deeply colored, with formidable structures. Most of Italy's Pinot Grigio is grown in...
