Staff Pick Notes

Aged for fifteen years (minimum, some of the brandies in this blend are much, much older) in select American oak barrels that previously loved Lustau’s premium Oloroso and Pedro Jimenez sherries for ages and ages, have a nice pour of this one before dinner with a handful of smokehouse almonds or try an after-dinner dram or two with a big chunk of dark chocolate. Either way, you’re going to experience the magic that is Brandy De Jerez, i.e., a grape brandy that is matured in a solera system in the Jerez area of Andalusia, Spain. A full spectrum of roasted, candied, and chocolate covered nuts and a singular sweetness/dryness from the sherry casks make this one an absolute treat. Anyone into Calvados, Cognac or Armagnac should definitely check out Spanish brandies and for this price, you can’t go wrong.

(known as vinos generosos). Montilla, lying to the north-east of Jerez, produces some of the finest Pedro Ximénez in the world.

Solera

The real magic in the production of Sherry happens in what's called the solera system - an innovative method of fractional blending in which younger wine is blended with older wine to ensure a consistent product from year to year. The younger wine serves to refresh and awaken the older wine, while the older wine enhances the depth and quality of the younger wine. Thus, with the exception of a handful of single barrels pulled from the solera, there really is no "vintage Sherry": any date...
