Vanagandr London Dry Gin

Item # 38889 750 mL

If there is one thing for certain in an otherwise very uncertain world, it's that Spain loves gin. The level of devotion to the spirit is arguably unsurpassed anywhere else and while the wave of new distilleries popping up around the world has been found its way to Spain slower and hopefully that's changing, we are delighted to have a great new Spanish gin from a tiny new artisanal distillery based in Galicia. Created by one of the few new artisan distilleries that has popped up in the past few years, founder and distiller Enrique Pena uses 100% wheat as the base for what is an otherwise textbook London Dry style. What sets this gin apart as exceptional is the thought and effort put into the sourcing of every single botanical as well as the slow, 14 hour micro distillations that yield a tiny batch of 440 bottles, allowing Pena to deliver something very familiar yet better than you remember it.

Staff Pick Notes

The Spanish love London Dry style Gins, and Spain is one of the world's largest consumers of the spirit per capita. Enrique Pena, a Spanish native, took advantage of his biology degree, business background and passion for distillation to conceive his own take on the style, creating a distinctly Spanish rendition of the spirit. Pena's distillery is located in A Coruna in Northern Spain. The base spirit is slowly distilled in a copper pot still and proofed down using soft Galician waters from a river 100 meters away from the distillery. With a base spirit derived from 100% wheat, Pena is considerate in choosing the 11 high caliber botanicals. Aromas of juniper, angelica root, cardamom, and nutmeg entice the nose, backed by a full bodied gin whose flavor profile borrows equally from its entire fragrance composition.

Glossary

Spain

Central to the Spanish winemaking philosophy is the belief that wine should be released only when it is ready to be consumed, and not a moment before. Spanish wine law focuses squarely on this issue: the terms Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva are highly regulated indicators of the amount of time a wine has aged prior to its release. In Rioja, Navarra, and the Ribera del Duero (which have the most stringent requirements) red Crianzas must be aged a minimum of two years; Reservas, at least three...
