Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese, Schömann - 2023

750 mL
Item # 51544

There are many Sonnenuhr vine sites but this comes from the town of Zeltingen. This is a delicious Riesling that was fermented in steel and then aged in old wooden casks giving complexity that you cannot otherwise replicate. The dash of sweetness balances the acidity just right.

Staff Pick Notes

With a history dating as far back as the 16th century, the M. Schömann winery should be on every German riesling fan's radar. They produce wines that are both biodynamic and organic and punch far above their weight for the price! This wine comes from vines planted in the Zeltinger Sonnenuhr vineyard in the municipality of Zeltingen. As with all wines from the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer region of Germany, this expression possesses laser-focused acidity and registers as being slightly off dry on the palate. The flavors and aromas are incredibly layered with notes of apricot, peach, pear, lemon, lime, honey, and even petrol. If you're looking to delve in to high-quality riesling from Mosel, this would be a great place to start.

They are careful to retain the delightful honeyed, flinty flavors that the best sweet Rieslings have always displayed. Alsace, of...
