Staff Pick Notes

The Sidekick Series from Iconic Wine represent a deep-dive into the quality and value of Lodi California. They work with multiple sustainably farmed vineyards across the appellation, which, every year, assures they get the best fruit for the price, creating a trustworthy wine and perfect companion to your day-to-day adventures. Sidekick Merlot draws inspiration from the right bank of Bordeaux, with a core of 92% merlot and a compliment of 8% Cabernet Franc. It is fermented in stainless steel, and maceration is done for twenty days with a once-a-day pump over. A fourth of the merlot and all of the cabernet franc is then introduced to new french oak and aged for a minimum of six months. This wine is structured and earthy, but still carries enough gorgeous red plum and dark cherry fruit to stay pleasantly in balance. An incredible value.

Cabernet Franc has remained close to its roots in France, enjoying small pockets of popularity primarily in the Loire Valley (specifically in Chinon), where it is often bottled as a varietal wine, and in Bordeaux where it is still used in moderate percentages in the typical blends. In fact,...
