This female owned and operated brand is spear-headed by Yola Jimenez, whose family has been based in Oaxaca for generations, practicing and passing on the traditions of artisanal mezcal. Perhaps the most impressive aspect of this project is how deliberate, intentional and non-rushed every move and gesture they make is, most of all when introducing a new expression of mezcal. All of that patience and focus leads to incredible new creations like this one.
Pechugas are ceremonial, special occasion mezcals made with different styles and ingredients from producer to producer, batch to batch however the elements of seasonal fruits, local ingredients and sacrificial components all play a part.
Sometimes, oddities in flavor profile, this is one of the most beautiful and expressives ones we've come across. Made from fully mature espadin agaves and a bounty of local seasonally harvested oranges, tangerines, guayabas, pineapples, Tejocote and turkey breast the mezcal draws you in on the nose with its intoxicating bouquet of tropical fruits and scented flowers. The palate is potent, mineral laced and memorable.
