Textura da Estrela, Textura - 2020

Item # 47249 750mL

Texture is both the name of this winery, and this particular cuvée. A dry white blend of Encruzado, Bical, and Cerceal Branco, the vines are up to 60 years-old. Fermented in both used oak, and stainless steel, it was aged for 11 months on the lees in the same containers. Medium-bodied, with complex aromatics of citrus, white flowers, and almonds, this will pair well with clams amd chouriço.

Staff Pick Notes

60% Encruzado, 25% Bical and 15% Cerceal-Branco. 5 Words: Texture (hehe), Orchard, Salinity, Pith, Saint-Aubin-esque. Marcelo Araujo wants his wines to be about textures and feeling. Most importantly, how it makes us feel to drink them. Marcelo purposefully chose the Dão region because of its attractive combination of climate and geographic features offering optimal grape growing conditions. Nestled against Portugal’s tallest inland mountain region, the Serra da Estrela. Winemaking is directed by Luis Seabra, widely considered one of Portugal’s most influential viticulturists and winemakers. Only gently pressed juice is used to make this wine. It is fermented with indigenous yeasts in 2500 L foudre and cement tank. The wine is aged for 11 months “sur lie” without batonnage and another 10 months in stainless steel tanks.

Encruzado

A white variety grown usually in the Dão region of Portugal, producing crisp, fragrant wines. It is often blended with other Portuguese grapes like Malvasia Fina and Bical.

Portugal

Douro wines tend to be a bit fuller and fleshier than their Dão counterparts, which are generally lighter and higher in acidity. Reds from both regions are dense, rustic, and well-balanced. They also show their terroir quite clearly, and represent a great alternative to the modern fruit-driven style. Vinho Verde is Portugal’s most famous white wine. Literally translated as "green wine," it...
