Song Cai Spiced Roselle Flavored Gin

Item # 47037 700 mL

This is not a spirit that can be easily pigeonholed. It is part straight gin, part sloe gin in spirit and part something else completely new. Made from wild hill gooseberries that flourish on the red basalt forest soils in the Central Highlands of Vietnam, this spirit is meant for mixing into all kinds of drinks but it so good on its own you may find yourself sipping it chilled with simply some club soda.

Staff Pick Notes

This Roselle flavored gin is a truly distinct spirit that falls in between categories. Not quite sloe gin, not quite amaro, it stands alone in the best ways. Utilizing roselle, or hibiscus, and local gooseberries to create the distinct coloration and flavor profile this is another example of how spirits can be adapted regionally to bring something traditionally inspired but unique to the table. Bright acidity and playful juniper add a balance that reminds me of a less rich aperitivo, subbing in the juniper on the finish for the usually gentian. Still fruit driven and floral but with a less pronounced bitterness that makes this ideal for spritzes any time of year. I will definitely be playing with this in a few negroni recipes alongside the Cong Cai Dry Gin to find other ways to make this spirit pop.
