Pétillant Naturel Rosé "Moussamoussettes", Mosse - 2022

Item # 42647 750mL

A blend of mostly Pineau d'Aunis and Grolleau. The grapes were directly pressed into stainless steel tanks where fermentation started. This is a Pétillant Naturel, as the wine was bottled so that fermentation could finish in bottle. The Mosse's decided to manually disgorge this sparkling wine so while it's not crystalline rosé in color, there is little sedimentation left in the bottle.

Staff Pick Notes

In 1999, Agnès and René Mosse settled in Anjou where they purchased a 7-hectare vineyard. They immediately began practicing biodynamic farming and used a hands-off approach to making wine. Since then, they have established Anjou’s reputation for natural wines. In 2018, the Mosses handed off the estate’s reins to their sons, Sylvestre and Joseph. Their Moussamoussette Rosé Pet Nat is cool, refreshing and made for the last days of summer. It’s only one of two wines the estate made in 2020. It’s a blend of Cab Franc, Grolleau, and Pineau d’Aunis. The wine displays a melon color, has a touch of watermelon, yeast, and stones on the nose. It shows a wealth of flavors on the palate, which includes tropical and citrus fruits, persimmon, and melons.

Glossary

Loire

There’s a lot to remember when it comes to the Loire. Novices, take note: Cabernet Franc is a great alternative to Cabernet Sauvignon, Muscadet is unparalleled as a companion to shellfish, and Cour Cheverny is the best white wine appellation you’ve never heard of. As diverse as Loire wines are, one day soon you'll know your Melon de Bourgogne from your Romorantin.
