Staff Pick Notes

Beer lovers rejoice!!! Though, I am sorry to say that Astor Wines is still not allowed to carry beer products (Write to your local state congress person!), but we can give you a little taste of hoppy deliciousness. Horse & Plow Hops & Honey Cider is a delicate, dry and tart cider coming from Sebastopol, California. Using a blend of ten apple vanities including Baldwin, Gravenstein, Rhode Island Greening, Arkansas Black, Winesap, Newtown Pippin and Jonathan, local yeast and beautiful, locally grown Cascade hops. The hops add a refreshing pine and floral note while the addition of local wildflower honey provides a light sweetness. Super refreshing when a bottle of wine just doesn't quite fit the bill.

Glossary

California

California makes more wine than any other state in the United States. Not only does the state grow a variety of noble grape varieties like Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, there are also plantings of lesser-known varieties such as Nebbiolo, Roussanne and Mourvèdre to name just a few.
