Iphöfer Kalb Silvaner Trocken, Wirsching - 2022

Item # 39975 750 mL

Wirsching is located in the picturesque medieval town of Iphofen in Franconia. They are one of the top producers of Silvaner the signature grape of the region and are now in their 14th generation of wine production. Silvaners from Iphofen are full-bodied wines with a savory finish and long age-ability. The chalky, gypsum soils give a great minerality to this dry but fruited German white wine. Pair with monkfish in a garlic and tomato sauce.

Staff Pick Notes

The only bottle more adorable than a Bocksbeutel is a Bocksbeutel that's half the size! This iconic bottle shape is used in several places throughout the world, but it is an icon of the Franconia wine region of Germany. It looks a bit like a flask, but will not roll away from a hillside picnic. Silvaner used to be the most widely grown grape in all of Germany at the beginning of the 20th Century, but has mostly faded into obscurity...except for in Franconia. What was once a varietal primarily prized for vigorous growth and high yields is taken to new heights here. Weingut Hans Wirsching's Iphöfer Kalb Silvaner Trocken is a prime example of the finesse and richness that low yield Silvaner from top vineyard sites can produce. Apple, pear, spice and minerality will seduce your palate.
