Rutilia, Salvatore - 2019

750 mL
Item # 39057

Tintilia is an important red grape from Molise that was brought by Spaniards centuries ago. The grape is rich in phenols, deep in ruby color. The vines render a low production of grapes and therefore this historical red has been abandoned for more productive vines. This is an incredible red wine worth your attention. Full of minerals and tannins, complex and an excellent foil at the table.

Staff Pick Notes

Tintilia is an obscure grape varietal grown inland from the Adriatic sea in one of Italy's smallest provinces Molise (also it's newest - it split with Abruzzo to become it's own province in 1970). While the red wines share a lot in common with it's former partner - Montepulciano is also a commonly grown red grape- perhaps Tintilia is more unique, and a better representation of Molise itself. A deep garnet color in the glass, this is a sturdy red wine with grippy tannins that reinforce it. Aged in stainless steel tanks this wine sees no barrel aging at all resulting in a pure fruit-driven character. Ideal on a cool evening alongside aged cheeses, succulent roasted peppers or a rich pasta. Decant and serve with a slight chill for an optimal experience.
