Montepulciano "Marina Cvetic," Masciarelli - 2019

Item # 15436 750 mL

This is a dense red wine that's certainly not your typical Montepulciano. Think of it as a "Super Abruzzo" with supple fruit, rich tannins, and spiced aromas. Aged 12 months in mostly new French oak barriques.

Staff Pick Notes

Free your mind from any preconceptions of the Montepulciano grape. While we are used to thinking of it as an everyday quaffer (and I mean that in the tastiest sense!) this grape has potential in the right hands to exhibit power and longevity. So, may I present Marina Cvetic Masciarelli, who took over the already revered estate of her husband Gianni and has carried on the tradition of serious Montepulciano from Abruzzo, the rugged and mountainous region from which it hails. If you have the patience, keep for a few years and see how it evolves.

Abruzzi

Situated on the eastern calf of the Italian boot, Abruzzi is one of the most prolific wine-growing regions in Italy. Montepulciano d'Abruzzi is produced in the region of Abruzzi from the Montepulciano grape, and is not to be confused with Tuscany’s Sangiovese-based Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Many of the modern incarnations of Abruzzi’s favorite red wine are bigger, more structured,...
