We love this fruit-forward, easy drinking red from Piedmont. This classic pizza and pasta wine shows off the bright acidity and tannin of Nebbiolo and the roundness of Vespolina. Fermented in cement tank and aged for six months in bottle.

Staff Pick Notes

Collectors will chase old bottles of Nebbiolo to the ends of the earth. While I am often guilty of scouring cellars for dusty bottles, I have found I like Nebbiolo most when it’s young and fresh. Vinified in Piedmont but further north than Barolo. This is a leaner Nebbiolo that doesn’t skimp on taut fruit or bright acidity. The small portion Vespolina that is blended in gives the wine round texture and softens the Nebbiolo’s more aggressive qualities. You can't spend your days waiting on Baroli to bloom. To quote a certain someone, "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."

Piedmont

The most famous grape in Piedmont is the noble Nebbiolo, which makes the long-lived Barolo and Barbaresco. There are plenty of Nebbiolo-based wines that are quite enjoyable in their youth, however, often produced in smaller, lesser-known regions such as Ghemme or Gattinara.
