Staff Pick Notes

Established in 1978, Marco de Bartoli's wines brought fame to the western part of Sicily, which was mostly known for making Marsala. By using the soleras process of fractional blending so that the finished product is a mixture of ages, Marco created a higher quality Marsala that saved the domaine. The Zibibbo "pietranera" is a 55-year-old vineyard sleeping on the volcanic soil of a terraced hill. On the nose, this shows the usual aromatic sweetness of yellow flowers and citrus, but with a subtle greenness that adds complexity and acidity to the mix. The minerality is present but light. Great with raw seafood.
