Move over Beaujolais, we have a new Gamay on the block! Well, maybe not new since Te Mata has been making their wines in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand since 1896. This is a super fresh approach to Gamay coming from a single vineyard from Te Mata Estate’s Woodthorpe Terraces vineyard. 60% of this wine was vinified carbonically while the other 40% received a traditional, warm, red wine fermentation. The wine is then rested in seasoned, French oak barrels for nine weeks. Bright, candy apple in color this wine has electric fruit notes of wild strawberry, raspberry, fresh cherry. Beautiful floral notes with spice notes of clove an cardamom. The bright freshness and soft tannins make this a wonderful food wine with a light chill.
