Nikka Coffey Grain Japanese Whisky

Item # 30126 750 mL

Coffey Grain is a rare, single grain whisky based on corn created by the masters at Nikka primarily as a base for their blends. The Coffey refers to the column stills used to distill the spirit and the result is a light spirit with round forward notes of pure vanilla, and hints of tropical fruit with just a faint presence of spice.

Staff Pick Notes

When I tell people that grain whisky is usually made from corn and/or wheat they immediately look towards America. However, what if I told you some of the best grain whisky isn’t made in the US at all? Japanese distillers seem remarkably talented at teasing out delicate flavors from whisky and the Nikka Coffey Grain is proof enough. Made entirely of corn, this whisky is subtle yet articulate. The aroma and palate are in complete sync with notes of vanilla, fresh tropical fruit, cream, and subtle spice. This assemblage of flavors make for something both satisfying and refreshing. America churns out plenty of bold grain whiskey but for all the noise it makes I don’t know if it’s any better than the permeating nuance of the Japanese alternative.
