Arnot-Roberts Trousseau, North Coast - 2022

Item # 28153 750 mL

Arnot - Roberts Trousseau elicits a range of response from wine geeks.'Elevated to a cult status, this grape varietal, which some say does not belong in California, was raised in the volcanic soils of Clear Lake AVA, one of the coolest viticultual areas in the state. The vineyared is high elevation - 1400 ft above sea level. Inspired by Jurassian Trousseau, withthe friendly nature of a New World wine, crisp acidity meets roasted tomato, cherry stems and forest earth. A scrumptious collectible meant for sausages, roast ham and rich cheeses. This wine was vinified in neutral 450 L puncheons and a 1500 L foudre.

Staff Pick Notes

Given up on California wine? Only think of it as a source of big, jammy fruit bombs? Try something that will change your perception! For those who only love the big, jammy fruit bombs, get ready to challenge your palate. The Trousseau from Arnot Roberts is shattering conceptions about what good California wine can be. This is a tough grape to pull off anywhere outside Jura, France, but this one is exceptional. The nose reveals complex notes of orange peel, dried flowers, tomato, and savory herbs. The palate is delicate, light-bodied, and expressive, with balanced acidity and flavors of fresh herbs, tomato, blood orange, wild strawberries, and rhubarb. A delicious sip from start to finish and extremely food-friendly! Serve it at a cool cellar temp (55°) and enjoy all year long.

Glossary

California

California makes more wine than any other state in the United States. Not only does the state grow a variety of noble grape varieties like Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, there are also plantings of lesser-known varieties such as Nebbiolo, Roussanne and Mourvèdre to name just a few.
