It’s interesting to think about the trajectory of things. When I was just a lad, and didn’t even know the name of this grape, it was pressed and just beginning its journey to me. Years later, I would try Schiopettino for the first time in an Italian restaurant. Meanwhile, this juice was still slowly maturing in the high altitude cellars of Friuli. Finally, this bottle arrived at my table after a 25 year journey. Crushed berries, black tea, wet earth, and soft leather teemed from my glass. We were strangers, shared a meal together, and left on intimate terms.
