In case you were wondering Unlitro means a liter. Winemakers will often bottle their easy-drinking, crowd-pleasers in these liter-sized bottles. They are intended for sharing with friends when you just want to suck some down. Ampeleia is a winery in the Maremma region of Tuscany, where biodynamic farming and low intervention winemaking are practiced. Their vines share the estate with livestock, olives, and forests. Biodiversity makes healthy soils and better wine. Ampeleia has introduced non-native varietals as Grenache, Cab Franc, Carignan, and Mourvedre to Maremma. Although light in consistency, aromas and flavors of red fruit, violet flowers, and minerals are rather pronounced. Concrete aging gives the wine its soft edges. The light, dusty tannins and low alcohol make it a great afternoon sip. Don’t forget to give it a slight chill.
