Cheverny Rouge, "La Pierre aux Chiens," Venier - 2022

Item # 26131 750 mL

Christian Venier is one of the many passionate wine growers in the Loire. His wines always demonstrate grace and depth, this Pinot Noir is no different. Raspberries, black berries and red citrus acidity plays well into a schisty, stony finish. Lithe, clean and for those who enjoy fresh, natural, even naked Pinot.

Staff Pick Notes

If you love your Pinot naked like I do you're going to be absolutely seduced by this beautiful expression. It's as stripped down and in the buff a version as you can possibly get. Just lying there waiting for you to take it home tonight. The nose teases you with notes of blood orange, clove, cinnamon, savory herbs and rhubarb. The palate is delicate, smooth and silky with velvety tannins, bright acidity and enough beautiful fruit that beckons you to keep raising the glass to your lips for another sip. Put it this way, I don't smoke but I needed a cigarette after this one!

He has a deep set of roots himself, as his family has been winemakers and growers in the region for generations. Out of his 7 brothers, he was the one to look lovingly towards the vines and nodded, 'yes..I will take charge.'...

Pinot Noir

The Burgundy region of northeastern France is the historic home of the Pinot Noir grape, and is the source of the world’s greatest examples. Terroir, the concept that wines from a specific region have unique and identifiable traits, is intricately...

Loire

There’s a lot to remember when it comes to the Loire. Novices, take note: Cabernet Franc is a great alternative to Cabernet Sauvignon, Muscadet is unparalleled as a companion to shellfish, and Cour Cheverny is the best white wine appellation you’ve never heard of. As diverse as Loire wines are, one day soon you'll know your Melon de Bourgogne from your Romorantin.
