Staff Pick Notes

When vines are forced to struggle to survive, they generally produce great wine. Welcome to Lanzarote, the easternmost of the Canaries. The climate is marked by only 6 inches of yearly rainfall and an incessant wind that makes growing crops a huge challenge. Vines here grow on a layer of Picon (local volcanic ash). Picon absorbs and stores precious rainwater which, over time, seeps down into the soil and nourish the vines. Los Bermejos is a top wine grower in Lanzarote. Their Brut Nature is made entirely of the indigenous Malvasia Volcanica. It then ages for 18 months on the lees. You'll find enticing flavors of limes, apples, and a touch of vanilla. The palate enjoys a flinty minerality and savory salinity. Don’t wait for an occasion as opening a bottle is enough cause for celebration.
