Catarratto Vigna del Masso, Feudo Montoni - 2024

750 mL
Item # 22642

Catarratto is an indigenous Sicilian white grape that is found most commonly in the western half of the island. The Feudo Montoni estate is in the center of Sicily and the "Vigna del Masso" is a single-vineyard plot of very old vines. Vibrant with floral aromas, intense minerality, and fresh herb aromas. The Albarello (tree) vines enjoy a high elevation of 700 meters above sea level and shows fresh, mouth watering acidity.

Staff Pick Notes

Feudo Montoni has been producing beautiful (and certified organic) Italian wines in the heart of Sicily since 1469! Currently overseen by Fabio Sireci, this estate is family run for three generations and dedicated to highlighting the ancient vines of indigenous varietals including Catarratto, the grape that makes up this stellar bottle. ‘Del Masso’ refers to the rocky sandy stones in the vineyard, which lend themselves to the ultra mineral quality of this wine. My friend described it perfectly as ‘a swirling chasm of salt,’ you get crisp salinity along with notes of unripe yellow plum, lemon zest, and a nice long textural finish. For under $25 this is a diamond from the rough soils of Sicily - pair with tinned seafood and salt and vinegar chips.
