Ribeira Sacra, Guímaro - 2022

Item # 21787 750 mL

The slopes of Ribeira Sacra are remarkably steep, reminiscent of the slopes that ascend from the Mosel in Germany. This steepness lends beautiful acidity and freshness to the Mencía grown there. This wine is rompy with pure berry fruit notes and delicious peppery flavors.

Staff Pick Notes

Sometimes the most treacherous vineyards yield the most delightful results. Luckily for us Pedro Rodríguez of Guímaro is up to the challenge. The Ribeira Sacra’s most prime subzone is Amandi, with steep, south facing vineyards planted on slate, similar to the vineyards of the Mosel in Germany. This Mencía comes from multiple plots of the Rodríguez family's holdings. The wine does not see any oak, which allows the dark fruit to shine. It is a versatile wine & can be paired with chorizo, roast pork, or pimentón based dishes. As the weather warms, experiment by putting a light chill on this & serving it with spicy tapas.

Vines must struggle for nutrients here, and this gives concentration to the fruit. The red wines of Ribeira Sacra are...
