Staff Pick Notes

If you’ve ever driven from San Francisco down to LA, you likely know that Santa Barbara, is both beautiful and perfect for wine: foggy mornings and long, sunny afternoons make it an ideal for both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. It was in this spirit that, in 1982, Jim Clenenden and Adam Tolmach started Au Bon Climat (a French idiom for “good place”) with the goal of producing low-alcohol, age-worthy wines reminiscent of Burgundy. Today, the winery produces dozens of renowned wines made from fruit grown across the region, including Clenenden’s own Le Bon Climat Vineyard. The winery's entry level Pinot, made from hand-harvested fruit, is the perfect introduction to Clenenden’s vision: aromas of red currant, blueberry, blood orange, and bay leaf give way to a palate that’s as bright as the landscape. Welcome to the good place.

More About This Wine

Pinot Noir

The Burgundy region of northeastern France is the historic home of the Pinot Noir grape, and is the source of the world’s greatest examples. Terroir, the concept that wines from a specific region have unique and identifiable traits, is intricately...

California

California makes more wine than any other state in the United States. Not only does the state grow a variety of noble grape varieties like Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, there are also plantings of lesser-known varieties such as Nebbiolo, Roussanne and Mourvèdre to name just a few.
