Staff Pick Notes

Churchill's may not be as old as its neighbors in the Douro, opening its doors in 1981, but founder John Graham has brought a fresh approach to this historical liquid. Their house style is drier than other Port producers and they exclusively utilize native yeasts during fermentation, which exemplifies the terroir to the fullest extent. John has Port producing family roots dating back 200 years, so even if Churchill's is relatively new in the history of Port houses, there are generations of history in its foundation. Late Bottled Vintage Ports (LBVs for short) are my favorite values in Port. They are near Vintage Port level in quality and significantly less expensive, often ready to drink upon release. This bottle offers an explosion of black fruits and spices, with a velvety smooth palate that craves anything with chocolate!
