Glenmorangie is a well-regarded distillery in Scotland's Highlands region, dating back to 1843. Several Scotches serve as perfect pivot points from Bourbon into the vast category of Scotch Whisky, and this is one of them. Aged in bourbon, new charred oak, and rye whiskey casks, Glenmorangie's Triple Cask Reserve abounds with notes of nuts, orchard fruits, sweet cereal grains, and honey on the palate. There is no peat influence here; expect a lot of concentrated flavor and some gentle rye spiciness to round off the finish. Keep this distillery on your radar. In 2021 they opened "The Lighthouse," a still house constructed on Glenmorangie's grounds intended for innovation and experimentation. I am sure great things are in the pipeline from this team.

Scotland

History:Distillation was brought to Scotland from Ireland by missionary monks in the 6th century. In 1644, the first taxes were imposed on Scottish distillers by England, with the result that most of the nation’s whisky was soon distilled illicitly. With the Parliament’s passing of the “Excise Act” in 1824, licensing fees for distilleries were much cheaper. Distilleries started to take out licenses, and since then, the distillation industry in Scotland has been continuously expanding....
