A 2024 batch and one that perhaps speaks to the area Reina Jarquin produces her mezcals in more than any other. Located in the indigineous and spiritual home of karwinskii agaves this madrecuishe is the archetype of the agave with vivid punctuated tones and flavors of tarragon, rosemary, snap peas, sweet citrus, honey and deep mineral and warming chile finish.

Staff Pick Notes

The last but not the least of our trio of Mezcal is from master mezcalero and grandmother, Reina Jarquin. Maybe just because we got slightly more of this batch, we are lucky to still have some. Made from 100% Madrecuiche (aka Agave karwinskii), this one shows a beautiful range of flavors and notes. Madrecuiche or Iche as it is called in Oaxaca, takes between 10 and 15 years to reach full maturity, giving this a deep concentration and complex flavor. Mezcal ages in the agave plant not in the barrel so the freshness and vibrancy of the agave is captured. Floral and intense with a deep minerality, smoke is not a prominent as you might expect. The aromatics of this quickly fills the room so that anyone who walks in knows something truly special is afoot.
