Staff Pick Notes

This captivating red wine comes to us from Muri-Gries, they produce a variety of lovely wines in our selection (just look for the white label with a blue border). The "Abtei Muri" bottling with us today represents only the top-quality fruit from their single-site, historical vineyards. The grape here Lagrein is of course native to the region, but also present in Germany where is called Lagrein Dunkel - "dark" in German. A smooth full-bodied red. Dense with ripe black fruits of plum and fig compote. Layered with intriguing notes of tobacco, leather and anise. As this wine comes from altitude, you can expect profound earthen notes of forest floor and eucalyptus. I am transported to the mountains! And while we are in Italy, I feel this magical sense of Austria and Switzerland just to each side. This is a masterfully crafted glass on Lagrein.

The region is most famous for its...

Situated on the historic boundary between Italy and Austria, the two autonomous regions were returned to Italy after World War I (hence why they are often lumped together). Alto-Adige retains great pride in its Germanic heritage, evidenced by the dual language bottle labels appearing in the region. Alto-Adige is most...
