Benchmark bourbons are the Buffalo Trace Distllery’s incredibly affordable siblings to such impossible to get labels as George T Staag, EH Taylor, and Eagle Rare. In fact all these lines share the same exact mashbill. This newly released (2025) full proof bottling shows the caramel, vanilla, and baking spice notes of its more highly touted relatives. Throw in some citrus and banana. I tried it out in my Manhattan and enjoyed the extra kick that the full proof provided without overpowering the vermouth.
