Staff Pick Notes

Long Island natives Erik Longabardi and Benford Lepley started Floral Terranes in 2017 out of a shared passion for fruit foraging and fermentation. Their wines are a by-product of their deep interest in the conservation of land and fruit trees on an ever-developing Long Island. Through the years, they have nurtured relationships with a number of growers on the North Fork and are now sourcing fruit from the Elijah Vineyard in Mattituck, less than a mile from the Long Island Sound. It's surrounded by abandoned farmland, vineyards, organic vegetable farms, and tree nurseries. The wines are matured in old neutral wood barrels for up to ten months before bottling with minimal or no so2. Endlessly refreshing with notes of cider and tropical fruits, this wine has an irresistible sweetness that simply screams for a spicy banh mi.

No longer is our fair state synonymous with Concord grapes and Manischewitz; look for brilliant iterations of Pinot Noir, Riesling, Cabernet Franc,...

Sometimes the layer forms early on, but then falls into the wine and disintegrates - these Sherries thus...

Chardonnay

From Champagne to Chablis, it's hard (not to mention unpleasant) to avoid this famous white variety. During a huge popularity surge beginning in the late 1980s, Chardonnay plantings have increased dramatically -- not only in California's wine country, with which the variety is nearly synonymous, but also in Burgundy (its original, Old World home) and just about everywhere else in the winemaking world. It is a flexible, eager-to-please grape, responding well to just about anything a winemaker...
