Staff Pick Notes

Surprised to find Zweigelt from Japan? Well, it's hardy in extreme temperatures, making it a natural fit in Hokkaido, Japan's coldest region. While I enjoy easy-drinking juicy Zweigelts, this wine hit on a whole new level. Medium bodied and incredibly balanced, with raspberry coulis and a touch of chocolate & coffee, this is a scrumptious, silky Zweigelt like no other. The primary vineyards at Coco Farm were planted in 1958 on a steep mountain that makes hand-harvesting the only option. For the last 50+ years, those vines have been co-managed by Kokoromi Gakuen, a neighboring support facility for people with intellectual disabilities. Students work the vineyards year-round, giving them opportunities for economic and personal enrichment that would be difficult to come by otherwise. Because of this, herbicides have never been used there.
