Antërsè Metodo Classico Extra Brut, Brovia - 2019

750 mL
Item # 52570

A sparkling blend of Barbera, Nebbiolo, and Freisa, this bottle conditioned white is a departure for the producer. Savory red fruit, racy acidity, and a distinct minerality make this belong only to the Langhe. Pair with Bagna d ‘Tron.

Staff Pick Notes

I have always had a love for Italian sparkling wine made in the traditional method, and throwing one of my favorite varietals in the mix is just added fuel to the flame here. A Blanc de Noir of Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Freisa this sparkler shows brilliant stonefruit character of peach and white cherry. The body is crisp and driven with a lesser lees again period than the average vintage champagne, but still showing a beautiful doughy complexion. I paired this wine with caviar and chicken nuggets as one does and I can say I look forward to the next time I decide to indulge in this way again. A brilliant wine from a top producer in Piedmont. Don't miss out on this gem.

Over the generations, an uncompromising attitude towards vineyard selection has allowed the family to extend their landholding into arguably the greatest of Barolo’s vineyard crus, including...

Glossary

Piedmont

The most famous grape in Piedmont is the noble Nebbiolo, which makes the long-lived Barolo and Barbaresco. Several other Piedmontese grapes make striking and delicious wines: Pelaverga produces light-colored reds with distinctive notes of strawberry, cherry, and pink peppercorn. The red Freisa is vinified in a variety of styles:...

Freisa

The Freisa grape produces delicious red wines in a variety of styles - both still and sparkling, dry and sweet. In each of its many iterations, Freisa remains a very fruit-driven, juicy variety; the wines make excellent matches with light appetizers.

Barbera

Barbera is grown all over Italy, but the best examples of this red grape come from Piedmont, where it is made into all manner of wines - from easy-drinking quaffers to serious, cellar-worthy bottlings. Wherever they fall on the spectrum of stodginess, however, they are generally ruby-colored, full-bodied, and highly acidic, with remarkably low levels of tannins. The areas that are most strongly associated with Barbera (for good reason) are the Alba and Asti DOCs, which consistently produce...
