Umenoyado has been producing premium sakes and liqueurs in the heart of Japan's most renowned region for both since 1893. This classic umeshu liqueur is made only from locally picked seasonal plums with a base of the brewery's own premium rice wine. The pulp of the fruit and natural essential oils are all kept in for a depth of flavor that can only be described as kaleidoscopic. The lower abv allows this to shine in minimalist drinks, and all manner of aperitifs and spritzes. Refrigerate after opening.

Staff Pick Notes

I confess that I have never fully appreciated the true gloriousness of a plum. But after tasting the Umeshu plum liqueur from Umenoyado, consider me a convert. Umenoyado uses local plums picked at prime ripeness, which are then soaked in their own sake before being sweetened. Pulp is left in for extra richness. It's full of ripe pluminess, slightly sweet, juicy and utterly delicious. We featured this in a cocktail of the month, but now I'm trying to think of other ways/excuses to drink this. It would be great in a spritz, margarita, martini, or daiquiri to name just a few. Or you could sip it on the rocks with a splash of club soda and savor the full glory of the plum.
