A family business that started in 1903 in Rome and is still operating today, what is so compelling about this living family history is that they have kept the artisanal traditions of their origins alive as well and you can taste the throughline to when they started over 100 years ago in the quality of this amaro. 100% organic with zero added sugar, caramel, coloring or additives and bottled and a full 40% abv this is true herbal bitter leaning amaro as it was intendeed to be with a flavor profile centered around key botanicals of china bark, rhubarb, gentian, chamomile, mint and many more.

While I love the category dearly, I must admit that I sometimes suffer from amaro fatigue. So many distillers look to win over new palates by over-sweetening their amari with sugars; while these can be delicious, I find myself craving something truly bitter. If you feel similarly, this bottle is for you. This amaro is peppermint forward, and cooling like a breath mint. It isn't punch-you-in-the-face bitter, but certainly has an edge. Similar to fernet, but earthier and darker toned, with quinine, rhubarb and gentian standing out from the 40 herbs, seeds and roots used in production. The finish is long and pleasant, and while it settles you down you'll be reminded of how amari were considered medicine before they were a popular beverage. Enjoy neat, with tonic, or in your coffee.
