Amatiteña Origen Tequila

Item # 52369 750 mL

From Amatitán, Jalisco, home to the first recorded agave distillation in all of Mexico. Maestro Tequilero Alberto Partida crafts this single estate tequila from Blue Weber Agave from El Novillero and Las Rosas. Cooked in a mesquite-fired stone oven, and milled using a tahona. Distilled in historic copper pot stills, this has aromas of mesquite, citrus zest, dried herbs, grilled tropical fruits, and cherries.

Staff Pick Notes

As a newcomer to the tequila world, I wasn’t sure what to make of Amititena “High Proof” Origen Blanco. On one hand, it’s an artisanal spirit made in a traditional style: single-field agave that’s roasted in a wood-fired oven, pressed on tahona, fermented with wild yeast, and doubled distilled (to 49% ABV) in the heart of Amatitán, Jalisco. On the other hand, the Amititena line is one of a group of brands (including Cava D'Oro and Adictivo) under the eye of Alberto Partida, a fifth generation tequilero whose family helped modernize small batch production and introduce super premium tequilas to the world. But when I uncorked the bottle, my concerns were replaced with notes of mesquite, lemon, and oregano. The palate was equally smoky and complex, with notes of white star anise, and grilled pineapple. This is a tequila for serious fans.
