Destilado de Agave Espadin Mezcal - A PM Spirits Project - 2024

Item # 51969 700 mL

The potency of the flavors, the oily satin texture, the ripe mature and complex agave notes and the way above average full bottling proof are all things we have come to expect from the superlative nature of Cinco Sentidos bottlings and equally as much from any PM Spirits branded project. This one overdelivers even within that frame. One of the best mezcals and certainly one of the most incredible espadins you will taste all year. But bear in mind this is an extremely limited one-off single batch expression.

Staff Pick Notes

Yet another home run for PM Spirits, who worked with 5 Sentidos and Oaxacan mezcalero Rene Parada Barriga to bottle perhaps the most unique expression of espadin mezcal I've ever tasted. Doubled distilled and bottled at a still proof of 122, I was reasonably sure that there would be some power and heat to this spirit; while that's true, I was surprised not by just how much flavor there is, but also the complexity and softness of the texture. To me, this agave drinks the same way it feels to run your hands through an expensive shag carpet. The finish is extremely long lasting, with the mild smokiness and agave funk just hanging out while my lips pleasantly tingled away. At this price point, it may be the best value in the entire agave category.

Agave has a sweet, mild flavor when cooked. There are more than 300 agave species; an agave plant takes eight to twelve years to mature. The juice of the blue agave, cultivated primarily in the state of Jalisco, is used to make tequila; other agave species are used to make mezcal, bacanora, sotol, and...
