Drew, "Fog-Eater", Pinot Noir - 2022

Item # 51747 750 mL

A blend of Pinot Noir from two sites, Clow Ridge 90%, and Valenti 10%, from northwestern Anderson Valley. The area's cool climate and morning fog give this restrained dry red its medium body and dark fruit aromas. Aged in 10% new oak barrels, this has a touch of warm spices. Pair with duck ragù.

Staff Pick Notes

Jason and Molly Drew started Drew in 2000 with a clear vision: to craft small lot, cool climate wines that express site distinction and varietal character. Their moment came when they stumbled upon an old apple orchard within the Mendocino Ridge Appellation. While others saw a daunting project, Jason and Molly saw ancient oceanic soils, south facing slopes at 1250ft putting them just above the fogline, and a coastal climate with the ocean a mere three miles away. The Drew estate winery was born. Their Fog-Eater has a generous and pleasing nose with dark savory red fruit, coastal umami, black truffle and petrichor. The palate leads with dark red plums, trumpet mushrooms and fir tips. The acidity preserves the tautness and ensures a long persistent finish from the front to the back of the palate. A gorgeous vintage of this special cuvee.

California

California makes more wine than any other state in the United States. Not only does the state grow a variety of noble grape varieties like Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, there are also plantings of lesser-known varieties such as Nebbiolo, Roussanne and Mourvèdre to name just a few.
